Benefits of Jamaican Sea moss / Irish Moss

 Daily Intake:

The recommended daily dose of sea moss is 1-2 tablespoons or 4 to 8 grams daily. This allow users to see the benefits without noticing too much of the potential side effects. It is recommended that anyone with higher than normal levels of iodine should avoid taking sea moss in any form and speak to their GP or health advisor.

Benefits and Usage:

It’s one of nature’s best foods for thyroid support, helps soothe and heal the
digestive tract, is loaded with potassium which helps us detoxify by
drawing out heavy metals held within the folds of the gastro intestinal wall. The potassium chloride present in Irish moss helps dissolves catarrhs which cause congestion.
As good  and healthy as Irish moss is, if you suspect you have a thyroid issue you should seek medical advice first before consuming regular helpings of sea-moss.
Too much of a good thing can be as detrimental to our health as a bad thing.
Always remember that  food when used as a healing modality requires the same respect and management as a health supplement.

Irish Moss v Carrageen

First of all what is Carrageen,  it is an extract of Irish Moss an extract mainly from  the red seaweed locally known as Irish Moss, sometimes sold under the name “Irish moss” so it can be confusing when purchasing.  Carrageen does not have any nutritional value and is absolutely bland, no flavor, it is employed as a binder or thickening agent in many products such as toothpaste.
Native to the British Isles, it is used in cooking and a multitude of products
in the food industry, mostly as a thickener and gelling agent..You’d be very surprised at the products that you will find it in from ice cream to tinned foods. Some
believe that carrageenan can cause inflammation, severe digestive problems, bloating and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and even colon cancer.
What I do believe is that when you consume food in its wholesome state your body receives the full benefit the food has to offer in protection and support . When you extract or isolate elements of the “whole food” you now have a concentrated product (extract)  that cannot be used as freely as the whole food this is why you have supplements in values of 200g 500g etc for everyone it is estimated that your body will need “x” amount – so you’ve deposited a bulk delivery for use. In closing our body is a calculator and knows the exact amount it needs for each function for each mineral , vitamin or source of nourishment. Eating the correct foods allows these element to be accepted and absorbed.
